Colorado Animal Disaster Planning Program
This toolkit provides step-by-step information to build the necessary community response capability to develop a community disaster animal response plan for pets and service animals. By bringing together your community’s emergency response leaders, animal resources, and community volunteers, the required support will be available to meet your community’s animal needs during a disaster. Saving pets, Saving people i s a 15 min video that serves as an introduction to community animal disaster planning. It is directed to a wide range of audiences:elected officials, emergency managers and first responders, extension educators, and animal lovers. The video provides an overview of the planning process through the voices of community members in two Colorado counties. One rural county devised their plan from the beginning and the other more populated county explains how they used their experiences in several disasters to improve their plan. Creating a Community Animal Disaster Plan is a step-by-step guide to building an animal disaster plan and developing the necessary response capacity for your community. It is geared to those unfamiliar with disaster animal planning but interested in developing this capacity in their community. The guide maybe downloaded in a PDF.
